Windy days bring thoughts of warm hats, but it can be very difficult to find crochet patterns suitable for men. Men suffer from earache and cold heads as much as anyone else does, and yet suitable patterns can be difficult to find, however the internet comes to the rescue, as so often, when looking for crochet patterns. There are many free crochet patterns for men’s hats on the internet; it is just a question of knowing where to look.
As always, when looking free crochet patterns, the large crochet pattern directories are the first place to look. Crochet Pattern Central has several men’s hat patterns on their men’s clothing page, as well as on their adult hat page, amongst all the women’s hats there are earflap hats, Rasta hats, watchman’s cap, a tam, yarmulkes, and other hats suitable for men.
Allcrafts has links to free crochet men’s hats patterns and its links include thumbnail pictures. A great time saver, since you need not waste time looking at the instantly rejectable. There are also links to free men’s hat patterns at Crochet About.com.
Ski masks and Balaclavas are important in very cold weather conditions. A Sherlock Homes Hat, (deerstalker) could suit your favourite detective. If you are a novice crocheter, all free crochet has some free beginner patterns, although most hat patterns are not difficult.
Bev’s Country Cottage website has some excellent guidelines for crocheting hats and links to many hat patterns. The Craft Yarn Council has an earflap hat, which would keep the man in your life warm and cozy.

Crochet blogs are also a great place to look free crochet patterns. Suzie’s Yarnie Stuff has an excellent selection of beanie hats for men, women, and children. Knotty Generation blog has a beautiful Rasta Tam pattern suitable for both men and women.
Many web pages carry men’s hat patterns, but one of the best free pattern resources on the web is Ravelry. Ravelry is a Knitting and crochet community, it has links to patterns you will not find anywhere else on the internet. You do have to register as a member but this does give you access to a huge free pattern resource, as well as to the lively community. Ravelry has 47 free crochet men’s hat patterns, and you are sure to find one that suits your purpose.
Men need hats just as anyone else does. Masculine crochet patterns are easy to find when you know where to look for them. There are some excellent men’s pattern around the internet. Crocheting hats is an excellent and practical way to use all those odd balls of yarn left over from other projects. Many homeless charities gratefully accept men’s crochet hats. Whether you are crocheting your hat for a friend or relative or for charity, your hat will bring warmth, comfort, and pleasure.
